Qualifications

  • Required Experience & Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or other equivalent engineering discipline Minimum (10) ten years direct experience in the specialty chemicals, petrochemical, or chemical industry with at least (8) eight years of direct project management experience Previous experience managing (start to finish) Brownfield and/or Greenfield projects (up to $75MM USD) Must have experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; willing to delegate
  • Experience using SAP is a must
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to drive collaboration across cross functional teams

Responsibilities

  • The Project Manager, in alignment with Albemarle’s Project Process (APP), is to provide project management leadership for front-end engineering design, define and detailed design phases, construction, and commissioning and start-up
  • They are responsible for planning, leading, and managing all engineering activities associated with a capital project
  • The Project Manager integrates the total engineering effort over the total project life from inception to commercial operation
  • This includes execution of procedures such as management of change (MOC), HSE, CSR and pre safety start up review (PSSR)
  • They also develops proposals in collaboration with operations, process engineering and discipline representatives
  • In addition, the Capital Projects Manager will assist with mechanical start-up plans and procedures, support training and assure technical documentation and knowledge transfer
  • The Project Manager is a member of the Project Leadership Team and is accountable to the Project Director for project engineering success and for engineering functional excellence and competency
  • Main Duties and Accountabilities: Leads and manages Project Team(s)
  • Provides direction and establishes clear expectations
  • Assist in developing scopes of work and request for proposal packages for engineering work
  • Assist in resolving issues with vendors, evaluating bids, and developing procurement strategies
  • Support negotiations with key contractors and vendors as needed
  • Monitors third party engineering contractors to ensure quality engineering and decision making for: scheduled deliverables, and management within budget
  • Ensures independent or corporate resources for project quality assurance processes and execution with respect to engineering, procurement and construction activities
  • Travel to monitor engineering contractor activities and field construction progress Leads safety, including setting expectations and being visible in the field
  • Ensure all projects activities comply JBC/ALB health, safety and environment procedures
  • Ensure implementation of standard safe work practices and procedures, as well as reviewing and investigating all injuries related to work and enforcing necessary corrective actions
  • Support the Project Director regarding overall project controls, including expenditures and schedule to meet business expectations
  • Accountable for integrated engineering design and procurement schedule
  • Collaborate with Project Controls and management in reviewing financial data for projects on a regular basis to identify and address trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • Review and provide guidance on project changes and controls associated cost within the approved budget amounts per the established project “no-change” policy (Change Management Process)
  • Support ongoing planning definition process, specifically through establishing milestone targets, effective deadline management and resource allocations
  • Drives capital project work processes and practices
  • Carry out performance appraisals for direct reports according to planned schedules and recommending necessary actions (promotion, training need, disciplinary action ...etc.)
  • as per the Albemarle practices
  • Establish a positive work culture and maintain a healthy work environment for employees
  • Escalate any employee issues to HR Manager according to JBC/ALB grievance system, as needed
  • Be part of the procurement process by issuing project material requisitions, answer technical questions, evaluate offers technically and commercially, make recommendations for purchasing, receiving of material
  • Evaluate suppliers and recommend new ones when necessary, suggest payment terms and recommend guarantee and warrantee conditions
  • Supervise nested & non-nested contractors (engineers, supervisors and technicians) during construction activities so that highest quality and efficiency is achieved
  • Coordinate with other JBC/ALB superintendents and supervisors to ensure overall JBC/ALB goals are achieved and any approved procedures are correctly implemented within the department
