Qualifications

  • Ability to maintain report writers and chart of accounts
  • Ability to detect and avoid errors in preparing and reviewing financial reports Must be able to carry out defined policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
  • Due to confidential nature of information, must be of sound character and professional in demeanor
  • Bachelor's Degree - preferably in Accounting
  • Minimum Work Experience
  • Must have strong spreadsheet skills (i.e., Excel)

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Accounting Team Lead, the Staff Accountant is primarily concerned with the accounting functions for South Shore Hospital (SSH), as well as other related entities
  • Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives
  • Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job
  • They are the major functions that the person in the job is held accountable for
  • Use this to denote if a function does not provide opportunity to perform beyond "Meets Expectations"
  • Prepares journal entries to be posted to general ledger with appropriate documentation and on schedule
  • Prepares reconciliation of assigned trial balance accounts and follows up reconciling items on a timely basis
  • Analyzes financial statements and detailed expense reports, independently prepares adjusting entries, explains variances to trend, and prepares month–end reports and schedules
  • Assists the Accounting Team in preparing and finalizing monthly financial statements and other financial reports
  • Prepares daily or weekly management reports as may be required
  • Prepares and maintains files of records as may be necessary to document accounts which have been assigned
  • Completes annual renewal of applications that may fall under responsibility areas
  • Communicates with outside consultants and vendors as required, and follows established procedures for approving or accruing invoices
  • Maintained files are organized and up–to–date within assigned functional responsibility areas
  • Adhere to record retention policies and procedures
  • Performs data entry function to the general ledger, adhering to existing control procedures and documentation needs
  • Prepare audit workpapers and analysis, and assists with the annual and interim audits at the direction of the Assistant Controller
  • Assists with new systems procedures and process evaluation and implementation
  • Assists in compiling, formulating and reviewing fiscal budgets
  • All work is self–reviewed for reasonableness and with a complete understanding before being presented as evidenced by analysis and ability to explain the work
  • Develops and maintains current written policies and procedures for areas of responsibility, especially areas that may present internal control issues
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of financial reporting system and interactive subsidiary systems
  • Demonstrates initiative and follow through
  • Communicates ideas and concerns effectively
  • Promotes effective working relations and contributes effectively as part of a department/unit team in ensuring that the organization’s strategic goals and objectives are met
  • Effectively participates in all staff meetings
  • Supports the organization’s mission and policies and procedures, through attendance and participation in meetings or committees, as may be required
  • Effectively attains agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission
  • Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices
