Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate should be excited by the idea of working closely with designers to create compelling and epic features that will keep players engaged for years
  • Minimum of 1 year leading a small software engineering team
  • Strong programming skills in C++
  • A minimum of 5 years' programming experience with at least one shipped video game
  • Prior development experience in distributed systems and client/server architectures
  • Strong code review, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment and handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Previous experience shipping and supporting a Live product at a global scale
  • Networking experience in TCP, UDP, and higher-level protocols
  • Expertise in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with cloud/virtualization/containerization technologies and infrastructure
  • Expertise in relevant technologies such as SQL, Cassandra, Docker, Kubernetes, Pulsar, etc
  • Familiar with security considerations (encryption, denial of service)
  • A degree in computer science, or a related field
  • Previous experience shipping video games on console platforms

Responsibilities

  • You will help develop new systems and services for our game, coordinating across disciplines with designers and client engineers
  • In addition to having the usual technical chops, we want to hear from qualified engineers who have an absolute passion for gaming, programming, and finding simple solutions to complex problems
  • Contribute to defining the project’s technical vision for the server infrastructure, collaborating within the project team and across multiple operations teams within Blizzard to ensure service requirements for the project are clearly defined and met
  • Managerial responsibilities to include: one on ones, annual review process, reviewing peoples work, planning and team direction, establishing vision for your team, coaching and mentoring, assessing priorities and risks, meeting with engineering department managers
  • Ensure the efficiency, maintainability, and scalability of the services and technology developed by the Online team
  • Participate in driving the delivery of social and other multiplayer features
  • Act as a point of contact for cross-team server development, partnering with a central-service and platform team to define and execute on project requirements
  • Promote, contribute to, and participate in our culture of inclusion and diversity
  • You are going to work with production staff and other leads of the Diablo team to prioritize tasks and track development
  • Ensure that your team adheres to established coding standards, development philosophies, and maintains efficient coding practices
  • Serve as an active partner within the larger Diablo team leadership group

  • In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $121,500.00 - $224,880.00 Annual
  • In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation
