The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Business and Financial Services Division.

This position serves as an Accountant and is responsible for 1) Financial Analysis and Accounting by reviewing various reports and queries to identify unusual account balances that would indicate accounting errors or potential funding concerns; 2) Federal reporting; 3) Cash Control that includes analyzing draw methods and procedures to ensure the department is maximizing federal funds; and 4) Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

Design and maintain spreadsheets to ensure accurate cost accounting and that the proper federal match rate is achieved for the various grants requiring state/federal funding.
Ability to analyze expenditures reflected on reports to establish trends, determine, and explain changes in federal expenditures, project expenditures for a given period and assess the ability for federal program funding.
Ability to review various reports and queries to identify unusual account balances that would indicate accounting errors or potential funding errors.
Ability to take appropriate action to correct accounting errors through journal preparation and data entry into the sate accounting system.
Meet minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in: Accounting, Business or Finance.
One-year relevant professional accounting experience.
Other combinations of directly related education/experience may be considered on a case-by case basis.
Preferred: Governmental accounting experience preferred.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.50 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024.

Training Assignment : This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Salary: $ 23.88 - 23.88 Hourly
