Who We Are:

Dusty Robotics develops robot-powered tools for the modern construction workforce.

While today's buildings are built predominantly with manual labor, Dusty envisions a future in which skilled labor makes use of robotic automation to make the work safer, more efficient, and more precise. We want to create a future in which construction workers don't need to retire early because their bodies give out. In Dusty's future, the buildings we live and work in are built by teams of creative and problem-solving construction crews who direct robots to do the dull/dirty/dangerous work.

What We're Building:

Dusty bridges the gap between the digital world of building design with the skilled labor operating in the field, accelerating the digital transformation of the construction industry. The centerpiece of our strategy is the FieldPrinter: a mobile printer-on-wheels that prints building floorplans full-size on the concrete floor of a construction site. When errors in layout can cause multi-million-dollar mistakes, our product ensures that all field crews are building off of a single source of truth derived from the digital model.

The Position

Dusty is hiring an electrical engineering intern for 2023! Spend your co-op semester or summer break with us. Learn about the inner workings of a fast-growing hardware startup with a breakout product in the heart of Silicon Valley. Enjoy the satisfaction of writing code and building circuits that ends up in customers’ hands. Spend time at construction sites where our robot is printing layouts to evaluate your contributions in action.

Our engineering team designs and builds our mobile printing robot, the software that runs the robot, the user interfaces that help workers operate the robot, and customer-facing portals that are driving fundamental change in the process of constructing buildings.

For this specific internship, you:

Enjoy soldering, assembling, and working with your hands
Spent time building and debugging your own electronic projects
Have experience using electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
Have strong Python programming skills and want to take your skills to the next level
Have completed classes and labs in circuit theory and can design simple circuits (resistive divider, low pass filter, op-amp amplifier, etc.)
Are a self-starter who can synthesize creative ideas, present them, accept feedback, and then demo those ideas as prototypes.

We like to give interns projects that combine getting a specific piece of work done with an open question to explore for further refinement. For example, you might integrate a new sensor on the robot, then collect data to evaluate its performance. Or, you might implement a specific hardware or firmware feature, then head out to a construction site to see how useful it is to operators. You’ll experience this fundamental cycle of product development for yourself.

Where You'll Work:

Dusty’s offices are located in Mountain View, CA. You will be primarily working from our office in this role to facilitate rapid coordination with executive leadership and business teams. You can also expect to travel a small amount to customer locations around the US.
